City of Encinitas Embraces Legacy of Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs

Encinitas, CA – Small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs have a free, new resource to help them navigate the world of small business and it’s located within Encinitas’ city limits. Beginning on Monday, October 7th, residents seeking advice on running an existing business can make one-hour appointments with the North San Diego Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to meet privately with a seasoned professional to discuss a range of subjects related to small business ownership at no cost to them.

The City and the North San Diego SBDC are offering free, one-on-one business consultation services to existing community business owners or graduates of the SBDC Entrepreneurship Academy by appointment only between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. every Monday at the Encinitas Public Works Facility, 160 Calle Magdalena Street, Vulcan Room.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Small Business Development Center to provide expert business advisors for our local businesses to grow their businesses while making a positive economic impact in the Encinitas community and region,” said Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear.

The North San Diego SBDC is hosted by MiraCosta College. A day-long entrepreneurship academy is available for those who are interested in starting a small business on the second Tuesday of each month at the SBDC located at 2075 Las Palmas Drive in Carlsbad, Calif. Once you complete the academy, one-on-one meetings can be scheduled with an SBDC consultant to help start, manage and grow your business.  In 2019, the SBDC’s consultants helped small business owners obtain over $100M in capital and increase sales by over $65M.                                                  

Business advisors are trained and qualified to assist business owners with advice on a range of different subjects, including:

  • Steps to create a new business (Must attend the Entrepreneurship Academy or be an existing business owner)
  • Strategic Business Planning
  • Finance, Cash Management and Projections
  • Securing Capital
  • Marketing, Sales, Social Media, and Internet Marketing and Sales
  • Customer Service
  • Government contracting
  • Exporting and Importing
  • General business advice including acquiring and selling a business

The one-hour business advising appointments must be made in advance by calling the North San Diego Small Business Development Center at (760) 795-8740. No walk-ins will be accepted.
