News Release - City Will Award Heroes and Teen from the Non-Fatal Shark Incident Tonight

ENCINITAS, CA - A proclamation will be given to the kayakers and a Certificate of Bravery will be given to Keane Hayes (teen) that were involved in the non-fatal shark incident which occurred on September 29th. The Proclamation and Certificate of Bravery is to be awarded tonight at the City of Encinitas regularly scheduled City Council meeting at City Hall (6:00 p.m. at 505 South Vulcan Avenue). The City delayed the ceremony to give Keane Hayes time to recover from his injuries. To read more about the shark incident from past City press releases, please click here.

The Mayor of Encinitas will be available for any media questions in the Poinsettia Room at City Hall at approximately 5:45 p.m. (before the start of the City Council meeting). The Proclamation and Certificate of Bravery will be awarded during the City Council meeting in the City Council Chambers. Some of the good samaritans, Keane Hayes, and first responders involved in the incident will be available for media interviews after the proclamation ceremony in the Poinsettia Room.
