Update on City of Encinitas Bluff Collapse Near Grandview Beach

UPDATE: The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office has disclosed the identities of two of the three victims from yesterday's tragic bluff collapse. https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/…/me/press/press.html

Encinitas, CA – Grandview Beach access is now open with the affected area remaining cordoned off and additional signage has been posted.

According to the City’s Geotechnical Consultant, the area at the point of bluff failure does not appear to be a danger to the homes above at this time.

The City is recommending that beachgoers continue to exercise caution while visiting the beach.  Given the apparent natural bluff instability, beachgoers should avoid areas near or under the bluffs and keep a recommended safe distance of 25 to 40 feet.

The City’s thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims.

For media inquiries regarding:

Bluff conditions and safety, contact City of Encinitas Fire and Marine Safety Capt. Larry Giles at (760) 644-7308.
