Facility Closures

City Beach Closures

In support of regional efforts to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), effective at midnight tonight and beginning on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, the City of Encinitas is closing all City beaches, access points to beaches, and parking lots adjacent to beaches until further notice.

Per California Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement today, the State is closing all parking lots at state beaches to deter people from congregating and unintentionally spreading the novel coronavirus. For additional information on the State parks COVID-19 response, please visit the California Department of Parks and Recreation website.

Additionally, the cities of San Diego, Del Mar, Solana Beach and Carlsbad are also taking similar measures of closing their beaches and parking lots. Encinitas staff will be placing signs notifying residents of the beach closures. All community members are asked to continue following the State of California’s current Stay at Home public health order, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines regarding handwashing, sanitizing and social distancing.

Department Information

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 45 acres of beaches and the many beach access stairways, viewpoints and beach facilities. Moonlight Beach in Encinitas is one of San Diego County's most popular beach destinations, boasting a beautiful sandy beach, plenty of free parking and state of the art facilities.  It's no wonder why Moonlight Beach regularly shows up at the top of the list of "Best Beach" rankings.  Another local favorite is Swami's Beach Park, featuring public art, gorgeous views, world class waves and plenty of local lore.  Encinitas offers miles of beach to explore, so get out and enjoy!

To report a maintenance problem at one of the City's parks, beaches, or trails, please call the Parks and Recreation Department at (760) 633-2740 or email [email protected]
