PROJECT STATUS

City Council authorized the award of a construction contract on June 12, 2024 for the Cardiff Sports Park LED Retrofit project.  Construction is scheduled to occur between November 25, 2024 and January 5, 2025; while the four fields are closed for their scheduled winter rest period. 

BACKGROUND

The Cardiff Sports Park has served the neighborhood of Cardiff for many years.  In that time, it has undergone multiple improvements, including major renovation in the late-80s and an expansion in the early-2000s.  The Cardiff Sports Park LED Retrofit is the latest improvement scheduled for the park.  Replacing the existing sports lighting fixtures with LED lighting fixtures will result in a 30% reduction in energy consumption.  All existing lighting poles will remain.

Since LED lighting lasts longer and consumes less energy, the project will help maintain a safe and livable community through well-maintained infrastructure within Encinitas’ parks.
