PROJECT STATUS

Council awarded a construction contract in November 2022 and project completion occurred in August 2024.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project retrofited roadway lighting and safety lighting luminaires located along high traffic volume corridors and at several traffic signal intersections in the City with new (Light Emitting Diode) LED technology.

The LED lighting replaced existing streetlighting on 2nd Street, Birmingham Drive, Highway 101, El Camino Real, Encinitas Boulevard, Garden View Road, Leucadia Boulevard, Mountain Vista Road, Olivenhain Road, Quail Gardens Drive, Santa Fe Drive, Via Cantebria, Village Park Way, Vulcan Avenue and San Elijo Avenue.

Implementing this type of technology provides a more reliable source of light and the improved light levels enhance visibility and clarity of the road and intersections while increasing safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

LED lighting technology uses less energy for the same amount of illumination and has a longer life cycle, reducing maintenance costs and the city’s carbon footprint.

This project aligns with the Community Planning vision of the 2023/24 Strategic Plan by maintaining safe and livable communities through well maintained infrastructure and facilities.
