PROJECT STATUS

A Resolution for Council Approval of a State Parks grant was obtained in January 2023. Construction was completed in December 2023.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Moonlight Beach Barrels and Storm Water Repairs Project (CD05E) consisted of point repairs and lining of three existing 72-in metal storm water pipes that connects Cottonwood Creek with the Pacific Ocean. This project also included repairs to the south channel bank of Cottonwood Creek upstream of the metal storm water pipes.

The work to line the pipes was identified in the City’s Annual Storm Drain Management Program which identifies pipes in need of rehabilitation. The south channel bank of Cottonwood Creek collapsed after a storm event in November 2023 and was in need of repair.  If these drainage facilities were not rehabilitated, it would have increased the risk of failure and possible contamination of groundwater and surface waters.

This project was part of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and livable communities through consistent maintenance, as outlined in the City’s Strategic Plan
