Santa Fe Drive Corridor Improvements (Western Phase)
Updated: 10.10.24
PROJECT STATUS
The city's contractor mobilized for construction on December 12, 2023 and officially broke ground on January 22, 2024. Civil improvements are nearly completed on both sides of Santa Fe Drive. The remaining work includes the completion of irrigation/landscaping throughout the corridor, constructing the Westbound Bus Pad, and installing striping/signage. At the conclusion of those items, the contractor will begin work at the intersections to connect the final portions of the proposed bicycle and pedestrian facilities. City staff and its consultants are working through solutions to make these improvements accessible to the community as quickly and safely as possible.
Please be advised, Traffic control measures are established along Santa Fe Drive. For your safety, the safety of others, and for convenience, please adhere to all construction signage and be cognizant of lane shifting, detours, speed drops and parking restrictions in the corridor.
The project will focus on connection to schools and will improve mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicular traffic, while also improving safety and connectivity. Improvements include the construction of new bike ways (separated where possible), new sidewalks, and the addition of a signalized pedestrian crossing near San Dieguito Academy (SDA) High School. The project will also construct new curb, gutter, AC berm and driveways. Drainage improvements at Bonita Drive will improve runoff capture and conveyance, and new bioretention cells will be constructed to improve water quality.
