PROJECT STATUS

Project design is complete, the California Coastal Commission approved the project in December 2023.  City Council approved the design in January 2024 and awarded a construction contract on August 28, 2024.   Construction of this project began on November 4, 2024 and is expected to be complete in March 2025.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The S. Coast Highway 101 Sidewalk Improvements to Solana Beach (CS22D) will construct a sidewalk on the west side of South Coast Highway 101 between the South Cardiff State Beach Parking Lot Entrance and the city limits with Solana Beach.  Currently, a pedestrian facility does not exist along this segment.  Pedestrians utilize the existing bike lane for travel.

The project scope involves installing approximately 675 linear feet of curb and sidewalk, construction of retaining walls along portions of the sidewalk, new curb ramps and crosswalk striping.

The project will maintain the current separated bike lane with the installation of the new sidewalk. The project is in alignment with the City’s Active Transportation Plan.

Construction is estimated to take approximately 3-4 months. Cardiff State Beach will remain open and accessible during construction.
