Note: The California Vehicle Code (CVC) requires that an authorizing agent inspect the vehicle cited and sign off on the ticket, acknowledging proof of either of the following: a valid DMV registration, month/year tabs, and/or front/rear plates. Your valid registration, plates and tabs must be displayed properly and in accordance with the CVC during sign-off. A Photocopy of Any of the Above, Including Online Receipts and Registration Renewal Notices Will Not Be Considered Sufficient Proof Of Correction.

The City of Encinitas allows for the following (3) violations to be corrected within (21) calendar days of the date of the original citation:

• CVC 4000(a) requires a current, valid DMV operating registration.
• CVC 5200 requires front and rear plates on vehicles registered in the State of California.
• CVC 5204(a) requires valid registration tabs (month & year) be affixed to the vehicle’s back license plate.

Correctable violation penalty amounts can be reduced to $10.00 per violation following either of the (2) methods below:

1. Submit the proof of correction and fee in person to the City of Encinitas Code Enforcement Division
2. Obtain a Sworn Officer “Sign Off” on the original parking citation and submit it with the correction fee to either of the addresses below:

Please Note: Responsible parties receiving sign-offs at the Sheriff’s Department may be charged a separate and/or additional fee from the City’s fee.

Proof of correction and total penalty fee must be received within (21) days of the citation issuance. Proof of correction and/or penalty fees received after (21) days from the date of the citation may result in double fees and eventual lien hold on the responsible party’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) registration. A DMV hold will prevent the responsible party from registering or reregistering his/her vehicle(s).

Vehicles with (5) or more notices may be impounded or immobilized pursuant to California Vehicle Code Sections 22651(1) and 22651.7.
